Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

I and a colleague went to the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary yesterday (Friday) because I had checked one website that said the hides were open every day from dawn to dusk.  Ha!  They're actually closed on Friday.  Fortunately, we were able to walk along the fence.  There were a lot of cool birds.  It made me wish that I had a better camera with a long telephoto lense.  In spite of the fact that we couldn't get into the hide, we spent a pleasant hour and a half there. Now that I know where it is (there's no big sign), I'll go on a Saturday morning at 9am.

It's really strange to be looking out over a lagoon full of flamingoes and seeing the Burj Dubai in the background.

This place looks enjoyable to have a good time on Saturday morning.

What is the thing in the picture which looks like a bunch of nuts?

Please guide us on directions to Ras Al khor sanctuary and hides. The google earth location & UAE offroad map did not help much. We could see the flamingos on the other side of the road. Spent 1.5 hours with the overhead crossings, without an luck trying to get onto the other side.

They do have a website that might help. If you come from Airport Road to the Emirates Highway, you want to be traveling south. Take the second exit (Don't take the exit towards Festival City. Take the next exit.). As you circle around Dubai Creek, there is a turn-off on the right. It's not well-marked. It might help to look for the hide. This hide is right at the end of Dubai Creek.

Good luck.

p.s. I got lost coming from the Lamcy Plaza direction. There are signs indicating hides on the south side of the Creek, but I couldn't get to them.

Thank you. We will go there this weekend. I think the third hide(Lagoon) is closed for viewing due to construction and only Mangrove and Flamingo hides are open.
